Its important to create a routine in the evenings. I found that an early evening feed, followed by a bath, some quiet time and then a final feed (keeping the whole house quiet). I would then suggest that you put your baby into their cot, again using the same routine, but not lingering too long. Say the same words - 'night, night - sleep tight'etc. and then leave. If your baby starts to cry leave it for a couple of minutes and then return to check on them. Its hard but you need to try and refrain from picking them up but maybee stroke them on the cheek and speak softly to them until they have calmed a little and then leave again. Keep on doing this routine until they are asleep. They will be left feeling reasured but will start to get into the habit of falling asleep alone.
